What I’ve Been Up To…

…. While I haven’t been blogging.

The past 3 months or so have been hectic, to say the least. My ex & I are now legally divorced & I’ve just been picking up the pieces & doing what I can to get my life back in order.

I know my last blog post was at the beginning of November & a significant amount has occurred in my life since then. While I usually don’t get too personal on this blog, seeing as it is a food blog, I’m thinking I want to change that. I struggle with Writer’s Block at times because I’ve tried to keep myself from getting personal. In the end though, I think my best writing comes from the heart & that’s what I’m going to do.

With that in mind, here’s a recap of the events that have shaped the past two months & ultimately help guide me to where I am now.

I can’t even begin to explain the vast improvement in my running since that fateful day at the end of September. The end of my marriage was an awakening in my running. Maybe it was anger. Maybe it was freedom. Maybe it was no longer feeling the weight of my struggles. All I know is my pace has dropped over a minute per mile & it practically happened over night.

On November 12, I ran my first 10k & therefore, it was an insta-PR.

It was FREEZING that morning. Well, freezing for this Floridian. My goal for the race was 1:08:00 – a solid 11 minute mile pace. Clearly, I knocked that out of the park with a 1:06:07 (10:39 pace). I felt so solid & strong. It was a wonderful feeling of strength & it definitely provided the needed ego boost for the Thanksgiving Day Half scheduled next.

I remember waking up on Thanksgiving Day, thinking it was a C-goal Day. Stacey introduced me to the concept of A, B & C goals for races. For this particular race, my goals were:

A – Sub 2:30:00

B – Sub 2:35:00

C – Sub 2:40:00 (a.k.a. Just finish the damn thing).

I really thought it was a C goal day. I didn’t get much sleep the night before. I had felt sick all week & pounding Emergen-C. I just didn’t see it happening.

& sometimes, the best things come out of nowhere.

2:29:26. I cried when I came around the last corner & saw the clock & knew I’d hit my goal. Oh, the sweet taste of personal victory.

After that race, I turned into a slacker… completely losing sight of the fact that I registered for the Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon on 12/19. Whoops. Thankfully, I had the awesome Elle Dubya here from Gainesville to run it with me:

Without her, I would’ve died. Seriously. I don’t even think I would’ve gotten out of bed that morning had it not been for her. I bitched & moaned the entire race, despite the look of sheer joy on my face above.

My life hasn’t been completely dedicated to running though. I’ve started doing the things that I want to do. For example, I went to Tallahassee for the first time since I graduated in 2007 so I could cheer on my Seminoles at the Homecoming Game:

& I did my fair share of Holiday Partying:

& I played an epic game of Jenga at Bold City Brewery:

& because this technically is a food blog & maybe I should throw a picture of food into this post… I ate frozen pizza & drank wine on Christmas Eve (& loved it):

& I’ve started dating again. I’ve let myself get hopeful. I’ve let my feelings get hurt. I’ve realized He’s Just Not That Into Me & that’s okay. It’s all a part of moving on & finding that greater plan. I believe the most important lesson I’ve learned over the past year is simply this:

& into the New Year I’ll continue with that state of mind. 2011, you may not have been that nice to me. But 2012, I’ve got my eye on you. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a great year.
